The Restorative Community Foundation has been organized to create a structured process for local governments, social agencies, schools and community leaders to evaluate the strengths of the restorative justice movement, educate themselves, and decide how to apply its practices.
Goals of the Restorative Community Foundation:
Virtual Community Development/Support
Geographic Community Development and Support
Modeling: Restorative Justice Community of Charlottesville-Albemarle will develop a prototype for other community-based Restorative Justice Programs.
Service Community Recognition, Development and Support (Example: Schools or Community Police Cooperatives)
Charlottesville/Albemarle's project will bring together the community's wisdom, the success of Genesee Justice (a restorative program in Genesee County, New York), and the vision of RJ City (a planning model by Dan Van Ness, Executive Director of the International Centre for Justice and Reconciliation).
Students discuss with RCF Director Christa Pierpont how peacemaking circles could be used in their school.
The sacred space within the center of this circle includes symbols, talking pieces, and participants' drawings of where they feel safe.
