On May 13, 2007, RCF sponsored a Meet and Greet with renowned South African recording artist Vusi Mahlasela prior to his performance at Starr Hill Music Hall. Vusi was fresh off the heels of playing at America's 400th Anniversary Celebration at Jamestown, and touring in support of his new album, Guiding Star.
Following the Meet and Greet, Vusi dazzled the Starr Hill audience with songs off of his new album as well as old favorites. At right, Vusi posing with RCF staff.
During the 2005 Virginia Film Festival (theme: IN/Justice), RCF co-sponsored two documentaries: Long Night's Journey Into Day, about South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and Keith Beauchamp's The Untold Story of Emmett Louis Till, about a 14-year-old African American boy from Chicago who was lynched while visiting relatives in Mississippi in 1955.
RCF hosted Beauchamp for his critically acclaimed documentary's screening, which was the premiere of the film in Virginia. Following the screening and discussion, Beauchamp and Elaine Jones, former director of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, joined RCF and guests for a fundraising dinner and spoke about the continuing struggle for civil rights in the United States.
